The Google Street View team has reached agreement with the Data Protection Commissioner over its collection of data in Gibraltar.

The team will be visiting Gibraltar shortly and Google has confirmed that only images will be collected and that no WIFI data will be captured.

The images will be transferred to the United States in order that personally identifiable information such as faces and car number plates can be blurred and so it will be a few months before the Gibraltar pictures are published on Street View.

Google has also confirmed that advance publicity will be undertaken prior to the publication of the images on the Internet in order that everyone has the opportunity to view any images which may concern them and request that they be taken down or amended to remove any personally intrusive or offensive material.

Details of how to do this are on the Google privacy page:

Anybody with any concerns is asked to contact the Data Protection Commissioner's Office.
